How to get there The climb starts just north of Kitzbühel at either Frieden (716m) or Vordergrub (727m) and both roads joins soon after up via Höglern (780m), which could be reached via the Römerstrasse from other starting points too. This is hard climb and the road only gets steeper the higher up you come. The climb is not consistently steep so there are room for some recovery though, but it is prudent not to go too fast early on. After arriving at the Alpenhaus at Ried am Horn (1666m) where all races up the Horn stop, the real trouble starts with a much narrower but well surfaced road that starts steep and and again only climbs steeper until the end which is the steepest metres of the whole climb at ca. 20%.
Other comments The Kitzbüheler Horn top is just above where the road ends at 1996m. You will have great views from the top section in good weather. This is one of the more well-known really hard climbs in Austria and thus you are likely to see other cyclist on the toll road (free to cyclists). Kitzbühel is an unusually expensive area in Austria, so you better move on if you can after this climb.
