How to get there |
From the Italian side there is a road going to the pass from Arnoga (1855m) above Bormio on the road to Livigno. The road is surcaed only 1-2 km, then the gravel road begins, which is cyclable (R1) just beyond a parking place. Then the road is too bad to be used by a road bike (I was close to injuring me by trying to cycle.) One could cycle a little higher up when you have reached the actual Val Viola, but it is for the most part too rough for a road bike. I decided to try a road leading off right, but it turned out to be a dead end and I only ever got to Val Viola (Case) (2353m), from where I took a photo of the pass and of the way back (the one here). (It was cloudy at the pass height (roughly 2 km further up) and I was late.) On the other side there is only paths (apparently there should be several separate passes with the same name up there). The road could be cycled in its entirety with a mountainbike. |
