How to get there

Climbing from just east of Passo di Aprica (1140m) to this little known pass is the most well-known approach, but there are several options. The most interesting starting point for climbing this pass is from the south at the turn-off for Megno and Doverio (901m) above Edolo (699m) on a road badly drawn (or not shown at all) on many maps. The Megno/Doverio road is quite steep with some stretches around 20% (signs suggests 25%, which is not quite true) and on this side it is a highly irregular climb. This side is just a little less hard than the famous nearby Mortirolo/Foppa pass.

You can start from Stazzona (399m), Svandana (392m) and Tresenda (374m) west of Tirano and climb via Passo di Santa Cristina (1434m) or start in Tirano (440m) and climb via Cologna to Trivigno. These approaches all have steep stretches, but the Cologna climb should be the hardest (unevenly steep). None of these roads goes directly to the pass itself. You have to go continue through Trivigno and then follow this high ridge road around Monte Padrio to get there.

The climbs from Stazzona, Svandana and Tresenda uses parts of the main road to Passo di Aprica, but then one turn off on the Passo di Santa Cristina road. This is the last and second proper road going off the Passo di Aprica road after the first real hairpin bend on the Aprica road (the first more obscure road is the S. Rocco road, which it says on a stone there). The S. Rocco road is asphalted, but I do not believe the road directly up from S. Rocco is usable with a road bike. One could also descend from Passo del Mortirolo and climb a few metres from Passo di Guspessa (1824m).

Other comments There are actually some very open and nice views along most of the approaches up here. No water found on the climb as I can remember. See also the Valico di Trivigno (Monte Padrio) (1867m) climb, which is on the same road (west side of the Monte Padrio). For more information see also: Passo di Guspessa (1824m), Passo del Mortirolo (1896m), Passo della Foppa/Pas de la Foppa (1855m) and Col Carette di Val Bighera (2097m). The photo is taken on the Megno/Doverio climb (showing a friend).
