2012-11-23 Thousands of updates, literally, since last. New now is a list of most worthwhile climbs in the Alps. Also maps for all paved passes above 1590m.
2012-09-26 Photos and start of the story for the Tour 2012 now online (will be completed eventually). Same goes for the Alicante Easter tour 2012 in ‘My other cycling adventures’. Noted that the High Alps pass list is the only one under active maintenance. Further clarifications of criterias for inclusion in the list provided. Mittertörl (2327m) were removed some time ago. Added: Klanska Škrbina/Forcella della Lavina/Lahnscharte (2055m); Col du Mont-Joux/Col de Joux (1930m); Col de Tende/Colle di Tenda (1871m) + many minor changes again.
2011-12-24 Decided to save the inspirational classic lists of ‘Challenging Road Climbs’ created a long time ago now and publish them on my site (with links to archive versions). See: Other websites. All dead links fixed (apart from the remaining 40 climbs or so on High Alps pass list I am working on).
2011-12-17 Tour of the Alps 2011 up now, but story is to be completed over the upcoming weeks.
2011-08-05 High Alps passes: somewhat big and perhaps final major revision. Col des Bouquetins/de Beaucul (1759m) leaves the list (only 110m more gravel than nearby Col de Bretaye, but slightly bad for a road bike). Rinderalp (1690m) were too long gravel, so also leaves. New passes included: Plan du Lac (Bellecombe) (2370m); Sattel (Sattelalp/Mittler Hütte) (2015m); Ova Spin (1886m) (for better consistency); Passo di Col di Caneva (1842m); Spullersee (1835m); Hintertärfeten (Chrindi) (1824m) (previously added as Schwarzmoos); (Col de) Planachaux (1808m); La Foilleuse (1801m); Passo Muazz (1697m) (longest stretch of gravel now (500m), but an almost flat section); Halsl (1662m) (on Goldeck road); Le Poingt Ravier (1644m); Alpage du Charmant Som (1642m); Col du Lachens (1628m); Selibüelpass/Gurnigel (1594m).
2011-06-13 High Alps passes: added Passo Torre di Fraèle (1941m) that has recently been asphalted from Bormio. Online maps: Kompass maps for Austria and route planners such as gpsies.com.
2011-05-31 High Alps passes: added Schwarzmoos (Ramsli) (1824m); Hornberg /Uf de Chessle (1814m); Vy Boveyre (1795m); Sewenegg (1742m); Rinderalp (1690m); Dèquemanlieu (1619m); Vorder Schwarzesee (Sparenmoos) (1616m) and removed Pas des Escaliers (1700m).
2011-05-13 High Alps passes: added Col de l’Abréviau/du Madzé (1628m) + updated some links.
2011-04-17 Tour of the Alps 2010 finally posted.
