How to get there | This is a nice climb that I did not get to see until 2015. It is the obvious way from down the Nice area and up to Col d’Allos (2244m). It is never steep and the road is quite nice on the east side and a bit spectacular on the west side down to Thorame-Haute (1101m). The climb starts as you take off the N202 from up the Var valley at Les Scaffarels (649m) or from Thorame-Haute to the west. | |
Other comments | A very practical pass for those wishing to avoid the alternative Col des Champs (2087m) on their way to from Col d’Allos. For those disappointed about the steepness, you may wish to get a bit warmer by visiting Colle Basse (1473m) from Annot (689m). Annot is the only obvious place to stop at along this road for eating and drinking. [FR-04-1431] |
