How to get there | It is a very long climb from the north, starting in Tiefencastel/Casti (851m). It is not very steep anywhere and flat along the Lai da Marmorera. The climb from the south, starting in Silvaplana/Silvaplauna (1802m), is short but a little steeper. | |
Other comments | There are some good views on the south side over the Lej da Silvaplauna and it is also quite nice around Bivio/Beiva (1769m) on the north side. I believe this pass has a bad reputation mostly because of the rather busy road and it is indeed the most used pass in this region together with the Passo del Maloja/Pass dal Malögia/Malojapass (1815m). See also the Albulapass/Pass d’Alvra (2312m) and Lenzerheidepass/Parpaner Höhe (1550m). One could avoid the Julierpass and the Malojapass if using the ancient Septimerpass/Pass da Sett (2311m) by following a perhaps cyclable road from Bivio to the pass and from there walk a (steep) path down the south side of the Maloja pass. Pass dil Gelgia is another local pass name. See also Alp da Stierva (2145m) and Obermutten (1864m). Other name: Pass dil Gelgia. [CH-GR-2284, BIG 597] |
